Nelson County · Rockfish Valley

Fall on the 151.

The Rockfish Valley is at its best in autumn: cool afternoons in the beer garden, fire pits earning their keep, and the Blue Ridge turning above five riverside acres in Afton.

What's on this weekend Hours before you set out

The season is on

September through November is our biggest stretch of the year — full weekends, live music, the market and the season's events. Weekend afternoons fill up; come early if you want a table by the river.

When do the leaves turn?

Somewhere in October, most years — and it moves. Weather shifts it by a week or two in either direction, and elevation shifts it again: the ridgelines above us turn before the valley floor does. We don't forecast it, and anyone giving you an exact date is guessing. The National Park Service posts conditions for the Blue Ridge Parkway through the season — that's the thing to check the week you come.

An autumn afternoon here

We're open Wednesday through Sunday, and the Scratch Kitchen keeps its own hours — check both before you drive out.

Getting out here

We're on the Nelson 151, about 35 minutes from Charlottesville and half an hour down from Wintergreen. Full road distances are on the drive-times page.
