Afton, Virginia · Nelson 151
Down the mountain from Wintergreen.
Staying up at the resort? Brewing Tree is about 30 minutes and 17 miles down into the Rockfish Valley — an easy afternoon off the slopes or the trails, with the beer garden, the river and a made-from-scratch lunch waiting at the bottom.
The drive
Come down Route 151 into the Rockfish Valley and we're on it, at 9278 Rockfish Valley Hwy, Afton, VA 22920. About 30 minutes in normal conditions — the same road-distance figure we publish for everywhere else on the drive-times page. It's two-lane for the last stretch and worth taking slowly; this is the pretty part.
Plenty of free parking on site, and no reservation needed for a regular visit.
What's at the bottom of the mountain
One house rule worth knowing before you load the car: no outside food or drink, strictly — ABC law and health code.
Making more of the trip
We're one stop on the Nelson 151, which runs the valley below the resort past breweries, cideries and vineyards. In autumn, see fall on the 151.
